Why this is the correct answer
Andreas Hofer, an innkeeper and cattle dealer from the Passeier valley, emerged as the leader of a Tyrolean peasant uprising in 1809 after Austria lost Tyrol to Bavaria under Napoleon's reorganization of Central Europe. Hofer's forces defeated Bavarian and French armies in three battles on the Bergisel hill above Innsbruck. After Austria made peace with Napoleon, Hofer continued fighting alone, was eventually captured, and was shot in Mantua in 1810. He remains Tyrol's most celebrated folk hero and a symbol of resistance to foreign occupation.
